State Rep. Donni Steele last week introduced legislation creating a special Michigan license plate commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, celebrating an iconic American vehicle with deep roots in Michigan’s automotive history.

“The Corvette is an American icon, but its story also has a special connection to Michigan,” said Steele (R-Orion Township). “This plate gives Corvette enthusiasts across our state a fun way to celebrate 75 years of American automotive innovation while also supporting a good cause.”

The Corvette debuted in 1953, with production beginning later that year in Flint, Michigan. Over the decades, the Corvette has become one of Chevrolet’s most recognizable vehicles and a symbol of American automotive engineering and performance.

Under Steele’s legislation, the Michigan Secretary of State would develop and issue a special fundraising or collector license plate featuring the 75th Corvette Anniversary logo. The commemorative plate would be available for a limited time, through Jan. 31, 2029.

Proceeds from the fundraising plates would be deposited into a newly created Chevrolet Corvette Fund within the state treasury and distributed to Safe Kids Michigan.

“When GM was here last week, I was able to drive a beautiful red Chevrolet Corvette,” Steele said. “Being able to experience firsthand the innovation and mastery of this vehicle was an honor. The Corvette is as spectacular today as it was 75 years ago.”
